Rep. Farry Urges Action on Commission Report Calling for Improvement of First Responder Recruitment and Retention in PA

The Senate Resolution 6 Commission unveiled its final report Wednesday in the state capitol making 27 recommendations to address challenges faced by the fire and EMS community in Pennsylvania. Rep. Frank Farry (R-Bucks), co-chair of the House Firefighters and Emergency Services Caucus and a member of the commission said the 102-page report includes suggestions for changes at state and local levels to improve recruitment, retention and training of emergency services volunteers in the Commonwealth. Rep. Farry added that the state’s volunteer fire and EMS companies are now facing extreme manpower shortages and action needs to be taken quickly to help avert this crisis.

Animal Protection Legislation Signed Into Law

Legislation that updates Pennsylvania’s animal abuse statutes has been signed into law. House Bill 1238, now Act 10 of 2017, known as Libre’s Law, has been hailed as the most comprehensive animal protection bill in the history of the Commonwealth, addressing issues of neglect and abuse, as well as clearly defining the scope of authority and providing limited immunity for humane society officers.

Rep. Farry Supports Disabled Workers at ‘My Work, My Choice’ Rally in the State Capitol

Hundreds rallied at the state capitol Monday in support of providing choice to many disabled workers, who may be forced to leave day programs and sheltered workshops as a result of new regulations proposed by the PA Department of Human Services. A bipartisan group of lawmakers joined the rally and voiced their support for maintaining choice in the workplace for the thousands of disabled persons presently employed in these community based programs. Rep. Frank Farry (R-Bucks) said those with intellectual and developmental disabilities benefit greatly from these programs and deserve to have a choice in where they work.

Farry Comments on Efforts to Support Volunteer Fire/EMS Companies

Legislation designed to benefit fire departments and ambulance companies was the focus of a press conference held on Monday in Harrisburg by members of the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee. Rep. Frank Farry (R-Bucks), who also serves as a volunteer firefighter, spoke about the need to ensure that fire and EMS companies are fairly compensated for the equipment and supplies expended during the commission of their duties.

Farry Comments at EMS Memorial Service

The Pennsylvania EMS Provider Foundation recently held its sixth annual EMS Memorial Service in Harrisburg. Rep. Frank Farry (R-Bucks), a volunteer firefighter for 27 years, including 16 as Chief of the Langhorne-Middletown fire company, spoke to the group of first responders about ongoing efforts to address mental health issues among those who encounter severely traumatic situations as part of their daily routine.
