Committee Approves Farry Bill to Create Christopher Jones Memorial Highway

The House Transportation Committee has unanimously approved House Bill 589, legislation sponsored by Rep. Frank Farry (R-Bucks) to designate U.S. Route 1 in Bucks County as the Detective Christopher Jones Memorial Highway.

On January 29, 2009, Jones, a 10-year veteran with the Middletown Township Police Department, was struck and killed while conducting a traffic stop on Route 1, near the I-95 interchange.  As Jones was walking to his patrol car, two cars collided and hit his vehicle, which then struck him. Jones was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.  He left behind a wife and three children.

“Chris Jones was a dedicated public servant who lost his life in the line of duty,” said Farry.  “By designating this highway in his honor, we are helping to keep his memory alive and we are sending a message to his family that we are grateful for his service and their sacrifice for our community.”

Farry’s bill will now be considered by the full House.
