Farry to Chair Subcommittee on Security and Emergency Response Readiness

Rep. Frank Farry (R-Bucks) has been appointed by House Speaker Sam Smith (R-Jefferson) to be chairman of the House Subcommittee on Security and Emergency Response Readiness.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as chairman of this subcommittee,” said Farry, who has served as chief of the Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company for more than a decade.  “As an emergency responder, I have a specialized understanding of the issues we will examine.  I look forward to working with my colleagues to make sure Pennsylvania is secure and prepared for possible catastrophes.”

Farry said the subcommittee will concentrate on ensuring the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, the state Office of Homeland Security, county and municipal law enforcement agencies, and the National Guard are prepared to respond quickly and efficiently in the event of a terrorist attack, natural disaster or other large-scale emergency.

“I appreciate Representative Farry accepting this appointment,” said Smith.  “His emergency service background and years of experience as a local fire chief will be tremendous assets to the subcommittee.”

“When an emergency occurs, the speed and effectiveness of the response can mean the difference between life and death,” Farry said.  “As chairman of this subcommittee, I will focus my efforts on making sure the agencies responsible for responding to emergencies across the Commonwealth are well prepared.”
