Farry Announces 2015-16 Committee Assignments
HARRISBURG – Following House committee appointments for the 2015-16 legislative session, Rep. Frank Farry (R-Bucks) announced he has retained his seats on the House Consumer Affairs, Health, Local Government, and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness committees.

“Committees review all legislation and determine which bills are sent to the House floor for consideration. This is where the real legwork is done in the legislative process,” Farry said. “As an active member of these committees, I am able to stay connected to the issues important to the residents of Bucks County and the Commonwealth.”

Responsibilities of the committees on which Farry will serve are as follows:
• The Consumer Affairs Committee reviews all legislation that protects the buyer, such as the Credit Card Information Act, Pennsylvania Automobile Lemon Law and Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law.
• The Health Committee works on health-related issues and legislation, ranging from teenage pregnancy and nursing home licensing to mental retardation and organ donation.
• The Local Government Committee considers bills dealing with the municipal codes by which local governments operate.
• The Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee oversees legislation concerning the Pennsylvania National Guard, disaster relief, 9-1-1 emergency dispatch services and state veterans benefits.

Farry noted he is particularly pleased to have retained his seat on the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, where he plays a key role in crafting legislation to ensure public safety in the event of a large-scale disaster as chairman of the Subcommittee on Security and Emergency Response Readiness.

“The focus of the sub-committee is to ensure the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, the state Office of Homeland Security, county and municipal law enforcement agencies, and the National Guard are prepared to respond quickly and efficiently in the event of a terrorist attack, natural disaster or other large-scale emergency,” said Farry. “We want to ensure we have a working plan in place and that everyone is on the same page, so that we can keep our citizens and communities safe.”

In addition to his committee assignments, Farry was renamed a Deputy House Majority Whip for the 2015-16 session. Deputy whips are responsible for assisting with member head counts and helping to promote certain tough issues facing the House Republican Caucus. They also keep the majority whip informed of any issues members may have that could have an effect on the legislative agenda and on the caucus as a whole.
