Farry Responds to Wolf Veto of Plastic Bag Ban Bill
HARRISBURG – Rep. Frank Farry (R-Bucks) today issued the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s veto of his House Bill 1071, which would have prohibited the imposition of a ban, tax, surcharge or fee on a plastic bag supplied by a retail establishment to a purchaser of consumer goods at the point of sale:

“I am disappointed the governor has decided to veto House Bill 1071, which aimed to protect Pennsylvania jobs and encourage promotion of plastic bag recycling programs. Prior to my time as a state representative, I spent over seven years in various administrative positions within municipal government. While I am a firm believer in local government decision-making, issues like this one have a negative impact on the entire Commonwealth, our economy and our business climate through the loss of family-sustaining jobs. A municipality in eastern Pennsylvania may not realize its decision to ban plastic bags for local reasons is forcing a factory in central Pennsylvania to lay off its workforce. We held a rally last week with some of those workers. It is tough to look at the faces of folks who know they may lose their jobs.”
