Farry Named to Gaming Oversight Committee, Two Other Committees
1/23/2019
HARRISBURG – In addition to his recent appointment as House Ethics Committee chairman, Rep. Frank Farry (R-Bucks) today announced he has retained his seats on the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness and the Consumer Affairs committees and was also named to the House Gaming Oversight Committee.

“Having had a role in shaping gaming expansion legislation last session, I’m looking forward to this new assignment, which will allow me to more closely monitor the impacts it has on our communities,” Farry said. “The jobs created and revenue raised from gaming is used to support important programs and services in Pennsylvania and is used to offset the need to raise taxes so it’s very vital that we ensure the industry continues to thrive.”

Responsibilities of the committees on which Farry will serve are as follows:

• The Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee oversees legislation concerning the Pennsylvania National Guard, disaster relief, 9-1-1 emergency dispatch services, state veterans’ benefits, and fire and EMS issues.
• The Consumer Affairs Committee reviews all legislation that protects the buyer, such as the Credit Card Information Act, Pennsylvania Automobile Lemon Law, and Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law.
• The Gaming Oversight Committee oversees slot machine gaming, bingo, small games of chance, amusement laws and table games in Pennsylvania. In addition to its legislative responsibilities, the committee has oversight of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board and aspects that deal with gaming within the Department of Revenue, the Office of Attorney General and the Pennsylvania State Police.

“I am pleased to be on the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee again for the upcoming session,” Farry said. “As a member, I joined the Senate Resolution 6 Commission in developing a host of recommendations to address challenges faced by the fire and EMS community, and we are actively working to advance some of those initiatives through committee and the House and Senate this year.”

Throughout his tenure in the Legislature, Farry has served on the House Consumer Affairs, Health, Human Services, Labor and Industry, Local Government, Urban Affairs, and Intergovernmental Affairs committees, along with the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, where he chairs the Sub-Committee on Security and Emergency Response Readiness.
